The Liverpool Jewish Historical Society
The Jewish Historical Society of England was founded in London in 1893 to promote the study of, and research into, Anglo-Jewish History and of communities connected with it. There are now several provincial branches of the Society. The Liverpool Branch, which also goes by the title - The Liverpool Jewish Historical Society, was formed in 1976.

The Liverpool Branch holds about eight meetings a year, usually on a Sunday evening in the Liverpool Jewish Community Centre. Meetings normally feature an invited guest speaker who has researched some topic of local or general Jewish history.

Our meetings are open to both members and non-members. Individual national membership is £40 per year which includes provision of the prestigious annual journal of Jewish Historical Studies. A more limited local membership is available at £10 per year for individuals and £15 a year for couples. Non-members may attend meetings at a charge of £2-50 per head per meeting.

The Liverpool Jewish Historical Society has aided the major project to catalogue the community's archives held in the Liverpool Central Libraries Local Records Office by supplying both volunteers and a financial contribution to assist in that work. Our Society currently sponsors an annual King David High School prize - The Dr. Mervyn Goodman Memorial Prize for Jewish History.

Officers of the Liverpool Branch are:-
Chairman: Arnold Lewis
Secretary: Helena Kay
Treasurer: Leonna Shenkin
Vice Chairman: Harold Cohen
