King David High School

Our vision is:
Excellence in lifelong education for the Jewish and wider community by collaboration with other schools and the whole community

King David High School was founded in 1840 and moved to its present site in 1957. Since then it has served the City of Liverpool as a faith based school of Jewish foundation accepting pupils of other faiths and with a provision for pupils who have shown potential and aptitude for music.

Our aims are:
  • To provide a stimulating and enriching Jewish and secular education for all Jewish children in Liverpool
  • To provide an education of quality and relevance to non-Jewish pupils
  • To demonstrate the finest standards of multicultural education by cultivating the distinctive qualities of the cultures within the school rather than by blurring their distinctions
  • To provide a broad and balanced curriculum to enable our pupils to achieve their full potential

The High School is situated on a large Jewish Campus. King David High School, King David Primary School, Harold House Youth and Community Centre and Childwall Synagogue with playing fields are all situated on one campus on Childwall Road, a major route into the city of Liverpool. Our links with the Jewish community are strong and we are developing our links with the wider community.

King David High School has a key role to play in the education of young people in Liverpool. It is a high achieving school, which is a member of the collaborative Sixth Form with Childwall Sports College and Broadgreen Technology College. This provides an entitlement to post 16 education for 180 King David students with a choice of Intermediate, Advanced subjects and International Baccalaureate. Our collaborative arrangements with these two schools are a model of best practice.

We have a comprehensive intake but most of our pupils are above average attainment when they arrive in Year 7. Two thirds of our pupils come from King David Primary School.

The present school buildings have exceeded their life span and the school needs a rebuild in order for the pupils to achieve their potential and receive their entitlement to the best technology and ICT facilities in order to equip them with the skills needed for employment and for life in the 21 century.

We are part of the Liverpool Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme with a date of completion of a new school in Autumn 2009. The vision is to create a campus which includes the Primary, High School and Community facilities. There is an urgent need for new buildings to ensure that the young people who make up the community of King David High School have access to the highest quality learning and teaching, state of the art technology, buildings and resources that are their entitlement. This will strengthen the unique ethos of the King David schools in ensuring the continuity of the highest quality education for the Jewish community and the wider community in Liverpool, whilst ensuring that all our pupils have facilities to achieve at the highest level and develop their entrepreneurship, motivation, teamwork, creativity and flexibility in order for them to become our citizens, leaders and workforce of the future.

We are at a very early stage of applying for specialist status and are in the process of deciding which specialism to apply for. Application for specialist status and the BSF project mean that we are at a very exciting stage in our schools development.

We have very recently undergone an OFSTED inspection September 20/21 2006. Although the report is not yet published we received a good with some outstanding elements for overall effectiveness and an outstanding for Sixth Form.

Our 2006 GCSE results were 91.4% 5 + A* - C, our best ever results. 87% of pupils achieved 5 A* - C including English and Maths. SATs continue to improve with Level 5 + at 98.5%, 97.8% and 96.7% in English, Maths and Science respectively. At A Level 100% of entries were at grades A-E with 55 % of entries at grades A and B.
