Glowing Ofsted Report for King David Primary School
King David Primary School in Liverpool received an excellent Ofsted Report last week. With over 400 pupils, it is one of the largest primary schools in the City and is consistently over-subscribed.
Mark Madeley who carried out the inspection on behalf of Ofsted focused on achievement and standards, pupils’ personal development and wellbeing, curriculum and leadership and management.
The report found that "standards at the end of Year 6 have been consistently above average for the last five years." Parents strongly supported this, with comments such as "I am really pleased with my child's progress at school."
This in part is due to the effective management and rigorous analysis of data carried out by senior managers to identify areas for development. Science is just one example of where teachers have identified specific focus areas to build upon, leading this year to a staggering 80% of pupils in Year 6 reaching a higher standard than that expected nationally." Children's work in art and music is also of a high standard. The excellent school choir and orchestra regularly perform both within the school and beyond to great acclaim and even in the early weeks of the school year, classroom walls were adorned with bright and festive artwork.
The Report also felt that the school works well with all of its pupils with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, providing quality individual support to help them attain beyond expectations at the end of Year 6.
King David has always prided itself in its strong Jewish ethos and the Inspector readily recognised the impact this had on pupils’ above average attendance, good behaviour and their very positive attitudes to learning. "Their personal development and their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development are good…..and they do a great deal of work for others." Examples of this have been a concert organised by the children themselves to raise money for Africa, substantial contributions to Jewish Child's Day and bring and buy sales to raise money for a local children's hospital.
The Inspector gave particular praise to the effectiveness of the Foundation Stage. "Children are very happy and make good progress because every day is an exciting learning experience…activities are stimulating and promote children’s independence." It was very clear that children leave foundation stage with standards that are above national expectations and are well prepared for the next stage in their learning.
Chair of Governors, Lauren Lesin-Davis, was delighted with the Report: "An Ofsted report three weeks into the new term and with a brand new Head and Deputy Head was a daunting prospect. The excellent feedback is certainly down to the hard work and dedication put in by all staff, governors and of course the children themselves. This puts us in excellent stead of the future."
Head Teacher, Rachel Roberts commented, "there have been a lot of changes in the school and there are more to come with the impending new build. This Report gives us an excellent foundation to enable us to maintain the very high standards which have been recognised by Ofsted."
In his letter to pupils, Mark Madeley commented, "I hope that you are very proud of all that the staff, governors and you have achieved. Your school is a really special place."
