Habonim-Dror, a Jewish Zionist youth movement runs activities for youth all over the country. Habonim Dror plans to re-start its weekly meetings in Harold House in October for school year groups 5+6 and 7+8.
Habonim is also running Leadership seminars and other one-off seminars to all members, and of course the world famous Winter Camp in Wales.
Habo Camp Attracts Liverpudlians (Aug 2007)
This summer saw a total of almost 20 participants, double from last year, on Habonim Dror summer camps. The camps were run for people aged 9-16 and were a roaring success. This success for Habonim Dror in Liverpool has met the targets of the movement for the year, which was to have regular weekly meetings and to attract as many people from smaller Jewish communities as possible.
This is partly down to outgoing movement-workers Gary Sakol and Anthony Steen, both from Glasgow. Anthony commented, "Gary and I are both from Glasgow and we wanted to give as many people from smaller communities the chance we had. Habonim Dror has been fantastic to us, we have been it the movement for over 30 years, combined! And it gives the chance to meet Jewish people the same age from all over Britain and give us a deep love for Israel."
Habonim Dror summer camps have a range of different themes based on age group and this year has seen increases in participation from Liverpool. Gary commented, "In total we had 19 Merseyside’s on camp which is an increase from last year. The quality of our programmes is clear due to the fantastic feedback we have had from the camps so far."
Sisters Ella and Hadas Farage spoke about their experiences on the same Habonim Dror camp this summer. Hadas commented, "I enjoyed the camp lots and I made lots of friends from all over the country. I will definitely go on winter camp and next year!" Ella echoed the words of her sister and said, "The camp was really good and I will be going again too. I learnt about fair trade and the leaders were really fantastic."
